Engrave Prep

Drag the outer handles inward to deepen your blacks and clean up your whites — the tones in between stretch to fill the gap, so your engrave gets more bite. The middle handle lifts or drops everything in the midrange.

Invert swaps light for dark. Reach for it on anodised aluminium, coated tumblers and painted slate — anything where the laser burns the coating away to reveal a lighter colour underneath, so the finished piece reads back to front.

Engraving Ceiling

This one is about your machine, not your artwork, so it runs after Levels. Knock out pushes everything above 179 to pure white, so the laser never fires on it. Clamp pulls it down to 179 instead — same ceiling, but the soft shading above it survives as one flat tone. The orange line on the histogram is where it sits.

Erase outside the polygon Cut lines & text follow the image

Cut lines export as pure red (255, 0, 0). Everything else stays gray, so your engraver can tell "cut here" from "engrave here" at a glance. Draw a Polygon, let Magnetic follow an edge for you, or just tap inside a shape with the Wand to outline the whole thing. Everything outside the shape drops away — you'll see it wash over in pale red on the board, which is the tool's way of saying "this part gets cut off." Only what's inside reaches the laser. Untick the box to keep the outline as a plain cut line and leave your artwork whole.

Wand reach is how far a tap spreads: low keeps to tones almost identical to the pixel you hit, high sweeps up more of the surrounding shading.

The Wand draws every edge it finds, not just the outside one — tap a letter O and you get the ring and the middle, and anything enclosed becomes a hole rather than filling back in. Tap the background instead and it outlines everything sitting on it, since the edge of the board isn't a cut worth making.

While Cut lines follow the image is ticked, anything you've already drawn travels with your design — move it, resize it, rotate or flip it, and your cuts keep hugging the same features. Untick it if a line is meant to stay put on the bed regardless of what the artwork does. Crop and Trim never move your cuts either way, since the artwork itself doesn't shift on the board when you use them.

The PNG comes out the full size of your artboard, white where the laser shouldn't fire. Bring it into LightBurn, LaserGRBL, or whatever you drive your machine with.
